After Joe Kinnear was backed down from 16/1 to 3/1 yesterday with Sky Bet to be appointed next Newcastle United manager, the former Wimbledon boss has continued to come in for support today and now heads the market at 4/5. David O’Leary, who has come out today and ruled himself out of the running, is 4/1 (from 1/2) and current caretaker manager Chris Hughton is 9/1 (from 40/1).

Sky Bet’s Tim Reynolds said: “It now looks as if Ashley isn’t going to sell the club so he could once again turn to Kinnear to come back in and try and sort things out. Ashley will need to ask the question if Kinnear is fit enough to take the job after having undergone triple heart-bypass surgery earlier this year and could find himself turning to Hughton as a cheap option.”
