La Primavera – Spring is near! After a few weeks of warming up, the first big and important race takes place from Milan to Sanremo tomorrow and it signifies the start of a long classics season that ends with Liege-Bastogne-Liege at the back end of April.
The race is usually a pretty dull race till the peloton hits the small hills close to the small town of Sanremo, bordering the Thyrrenian. Mark Cavendish has won this race, hanging on by his teeth when the peloton flew over the Poggio in 2009, but it’s safe to say he won’t repeat the feature since the organiser included an extra climb that will be too hard for the Manxman.
Big favourite is Peter Sagan, the young Slovac that’s been causing so much waves already. He’s a dare devil and won’t hold back descending from the Poggio. The weather forecast indicates it might rain, so roads may be slippery. From the twenty contenders in this race, we also back Vicenzo Nibali at juicy odds. He won the Tirreno-Adriatico last week, while beating our own selection Froome to the line last week. That was hard to take, but since he finished 2nd in Sanremo last year, you better have him on board!
One might also consider Filippo Pozzato for an EW bet tomorrow.
