US Grand Prix Preview 2012 Austin Texas

Austin Grand Prix Preview

Our US Grand Prix 2012 preview follows. Sebastian Vettel claimed his sixth pole position in the penultimate Formula One Grand Prix of the season at the new Circuit of the Americas track, Austin, Texas.
This is the first grand prix to be held in America since 2007 where Lewis Hamilton was victorious for McLaren at the Indianapolis grand prix
Vettel goes into his 100th grand prix tomorrow with the upper hand holding a ten point lead over Fernando Alsonso.
The German finished third in the last grand prix in Abu Dhabi despite starting from the pit lane for failing to comply with rules regarding fuel during qualifying.
The 25 year old who has also won four of the last five grand prix’s held a 0.7 second lead over fellow Red Bull team mate Mark Webber in yesterdays practice and was the fastest car on track in all three qualifying rounds today.
Lewis Hamilton separates the two Red Bull Racing drivers in second position just one tenth of a second off the pace.
Grosjean qualified in fourth but faces a five place grid penalty for changing the gear box and McLaren’s Jenson Button qualified in 12th as a loss of power during Q2 saw his day cut short.
Fernando Alonso’s title hopes are hanging in the balance with the Spaniard starting tomorrow in eighth on the ‘dirty’ side of the grid where starts can be tricky due to the slickness of the track on that side.
This is only the second time all season that Alonso’s Ferrari team mate has out qualified him with Massa starting in seventh.
The new track surface is very smooth and slippery which could prove difficult to stay on the racing line when the tyres are lacking in heat meaning full concentration and care of the tyres will be vital.
The Circuit of the Americas is the tenth different circuit to hold a grand prix in America but this track is by far the most technical yet with 56 laps covering a distance just short of 309km.
Vettel’s 36th pole out of 100 qualifiers, in the country where he made his formula one debut could just see him become the youngest ever triple world champion.

Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Preview 2012

Lewis Hamilton repeated his qualifying performance of 2009 and secured pole position today ahead of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix tomorrow (11:30).
Red Bull’s Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel behind with just 4 hundredths of a second separating the three.
Yet Vettel has been stripped of qualifying as the German did not have enough fuel in his car for testing. The three time world champion will now start tomorrow’s race at the back of the grid for failing to comply with the rules and regulations.
This is an ideal opportunity for Spaniard Fernando Alonso to claw back some points on Vettel who has won the last four races.
Jean-Eric Vergne spun out of qualifying one when the Toro Rosso driver lost control coming out of one of the final corners while in 18th place. The French man completed another fast lap but it was not enough to see 22 year-old through to the second qualifying round.
Vergne jouned Heikki Kovalainen; Charles Pic; Vitaly Petrov; Timo Glock; Pedro de la Rosa; Narain Karthikeyan who also failed to progress into the next qualifying stage.
Hamilton stomped his authority for the race in qualifying two as the 2008 world champion was the first driver to break the one minute 40 seconds barrier.
Michael Schumacher qualified 14th and Force India driver Paul Di Resta qualified 12th after testing a new chassis.
The Yas Marina circuit is notoriously a very tricky place to pass so Hamilton will be hoping to have a good race which would see him transform his sixth pole into his third win of the season.
    Grid positions:
1 Lewis Hamilton; 2 Mark Webber; 3 Pastor Maldonado; 4 Kimi Räikkönen; 5 Jeson Button; 6 Fernando Alsono; 7 Nico Rosberg; 8 Filipe Massa; 9 Romain Grosjean; 10 Nico Hulkenberg; 11 Sergio Perez; 12 Paul di Resta; 13 Michael Schumacher; 14 Bruno Senna; 15 Kamui Kobayashi; 16 Daniel Ricciardo; 17 Jean-Eric Vergn; 18 Heikki Kovalainen; Charles Pic; 19 Vitaly Petrov; 20 Timo Glock; 21 Perdo de la Rosa; 22 Narain Karthikeyan; 24 Sebastian Vettel
