Pontefract Racecourse in in West Yorkshire and has hosted racing since 1648!! in the days of Cromwell racing petered out in 1789 but began again in 1801 with racing being well attended by 1927. One of its claims to fame was that it was the first English race course to have a own site dope testing facility!! Pontefract Course Details
The race track at Pontefract is left handed with the the last bend being a sharp one onto the home straight. The course is uphil for the final 3 furlongs which gives horses a tough test. The track is a full 3 mile circuit. The track is the longest contimous flat circuit in ENgland , it is no surprise that it hosts one of the longest races at 2 miles and 5 furlongs
