The top Race of the year is the King Richard III Stakes this is an Listed flat horse race open to thoroughbreds aged four years or older. The race is run over 7 furlongs and 9 yards (1,416 metres) and it takes place in April. The race is sponsored by Totesport and the prize money is £45,000. Leicester Course Details
The race course is an right handed oval shape nearly 2 miles. In 2009 the open ditch on the fourth last was moved to the home straight. So now the home straight has four fences with the third last hosting the open ditch. Flat races are on the straight course up to one mile. Course is said to be a sound racing surface. The course is more of a chase meeting course with 10 fences. two ditches and a weter jump.
