As personally predicted, a King/Van Gerwen final is upon us. We saw some clever money go on the Dutchman and the winner will instantly climb to 8th in the world. This will open all sorts of doors for either player, and surely both players will now appear in the Grand slam of Darts.

So who will win it?

King has been the surprise of the tourney, whilst as mentioned some fancied Van Gerwen for this to be his time. King demolished Dolan 5-2. Van Gerwen looked great against Newton and one thing I for sure, if King gets 2 sets in front, will Van Gerwen have the mental ability to continue fighting? We think both players in this final are capable of any comeback, although we rate King higher purely out of his extensive experience on comeback ability.

All sorts of outcomes could appear in the final, well, there is only two outcomes for the winner, but the actual correct score will be where the money could be secured, depending on how close or how far apart the players will end up.

We were hoping to see King get a handicap of 2.5 to see some value, but we have not. Mervyn is more than capable of scoring the most 180’s and Bwin go 3/4 he does so! Best of eleven sets we could easily see a 6-4 or 6-5 outcome triggering over 9.5 sets, as niether play will surely allow the other to get too far in front. Skybet go 11/10 that the match goes 10 sets or more.

    We come to the Semi finals with one seed left in the competition, Wes Newton.

    Order of play:

    • Mervyn King Vs Brendan Dolan
    • Michael Van Gerwen Vs Wes Newton

    MVG had a cracking game against Andy Hamilton and he took him all the way. Brendan Dolan took out Justin Pipe 3-1 in an entertaining game, whilst Wes Newton was looking great in his victory. Mervyn King took out Robert Thornton with relative ease and is most likely to appear in the final.

    Mervyn King went on last Friday night, and it was late. He made short work of Robert Thornton, who obviously had the Taylor hangover. It must be noted that the statistics of people winning after defeating Taylor is very low.

    Brendan Dolan put in a competent performance against Justin Pipe and took his chances when he did.

    Dolan – 7/4 Blue Square

    It was rumoured a lot of people had money on Dolan in Irish Bookmakers on Friday, and a joy for the payouts for punters.

    Over a longer format best of 9 sets, Mervyn King has a lot more experience on the longer format and is rightly priced. King is playing his B+ darts and is not far from his A game. This is great as he is really getting back to his very best. Dolan has struggled with his maximums, whilst King got 6 in his last encounter.

    King is just 4/11 to outscore Dolan on maximums at Boylesports. We are keen on taking king outright, and –1 set enhances the price to 4/5 general. It is worth taking the risk on under 30.5 legs at Evens with Blue Square as King took out Thornton in 13 legs!

    Michael Van Gerwen Vs Wes Newton

    This will be the game of the night, as MVG was taken the distance by Wes Newton and both deserve to have majors behind them.

    Best match odds:

    MVG – 7/9 Pinnacle
    Newton – 13/10 Youwin

    Newton was given a tough game by Paul Nicholson and had to make a comeback himself to eventually win the game. Van Gerwen himself was forced to a fifth set when he failed to take out the double and gave Hamilton a 160 shot, which he took out.

    This game could go all the way, and Blue Square go 4/5 that the game goes beyond 31.5 games. We have strong feelings about this and it must be a recommendation. This game can go beyond the 7th set and Skybet risk a stonking 10/11 on 8 or more sets.

      What a week we are up to World Grand Prix Dart night 5. We enter the quarter final stage, where any player from here can believe they can win this competition.

      The double in format has proved comfortable with the players that have reached this stage and in fairness all the players in this competition do not deserve any whitewash defeat!

      Order of play:

      Justin Pipe Vs Brendan Dolan
      Mervyn King Vs. Robert Thornton
      Andy Hamilton Vs MVG
      Paul Nicholson Vs Wes Newton

      Justin Pipe Vs Brendan Dolan

      This match on paper will be pretty even. Layers favour Pipe on this one, through his ever concentrating ability to hit the high scores and not be affected any scoreline. We know Pipe is excellent on the floor and his beginning to show some form on TV now. Brendan Dolan has played well to get to his next challenge.

      Best match odds:

      Pipe – 7/10 – Pinnacle
      Dolan – 25/19 – Pinnacle

      We should not forget that Dolan defeated Pipe in the last recent Major in Germany 6-3. In a floor type format, we know that Pipe failed to recover from a lacklustre start and was capitalised on.

      Dolan will have the fans behind him on this and will have to adjust to the deliberate slow action by Pipe. Dolan is given a generous price of 5/4 to hit 3 or more 180’s, which is value seeing the longer format but did only get one during his win against Vincent Van der Voort.

      We do see a Pipe outright win, as he puts a lot of discipline into his play. No disrespect for Dolan, but his misses at key times may show under more pressure. Less than 5.5 180’s has appeal at Boylesports 9/10.

      Mervyn King Vs Robert Thornton

      This game has the potential to go all the way. King took Chisnall out and Thornton derailed the Power!

      Best match odds:

      King – 6/5 Stan James
      Thornton – 4/5 Skybet

      As stated above, we expect every set to be tight, and could well see a five set game. Skybet go 7/4 on a five set match, but also go 5/4 on more than 16.5 legs, which is surely the bet of the night. With 13 180’s between the pair in their last game Skybet are crazy offering 11/10 for 8 or more maximums.

      Wes Newton Vs Paul Nicholson

      What a game this could be with the prospects of entering a major semi final. Wes is the only seed left now and he will be able to see himself past Paul. Newton has a fairly good record against Paul, winning six of nine encounters in the past. They last met at the Grand Slam of darts in 2011 where Newton edged Nicholson 6-5.

      We wont be expecting too many maximums in this, although a checkout over 121.5 should be considered once the odds are released on the game. This should go over three sets, and I imagine this to be 2/5 or less. Paul will have to start legs off quickly to be able to frustrate Wes.

      Best odds to appear when they are released.

      MVG Vs Andy Hamilton

      This will be quite a game, and when the odds are released we expect them to be around 5/6 – 6/5, so around evens either way for either players. We believe traders will give Hamilton the edge, but Van Gerwen will be hot on the heels after his impressive elimination of Adrian Lewis.

      With no maximum in Gerwen’s match, you must favour Hamilton on the maximums. Again, without the prices it is difficult to ascertain whether this is value or not. We would like to say this could go all the way; so taking over 16.5 legs looks sure fire seeing as Hamilton does not give up. Being the king of comebacks, if he goes behind he wont be far away. Equally Van Gerwen has so much confidence at the moment, this game could really go either way.

        World Grand Prix Darts Betting Tips Day 4

        Well, well well – The power was switched off. We were not confident that Taylor outright at the beginning of the tourney would win it, especially at as short as 6/5. We feel that the tourney could be anyone’s now. With two seeds left, being Adrian Lewis and Wes Newton, the likes of Thornton, Pipe and Hamilton will fancy themselves big time to suffice.

        Order of play:

        Beaton vs. Hamilton

        Steve Beaton has only got a few opportunities left now, seeing as he has been sliding to the edge of the top 32. Andy Hamilton has had a terrific year and will not fear anyone.

        Best match odds:

        Beaton – 6/4 Paddy Power
        Hamilton – 4/7 Boylesports

        Hamilton has looked rock steady thus far and beat Webster to nil. Beaton beat Smith to nil also, and it was no pushovers in neither of them. With the momentum of Hamilton will be spurred on to win. Beaton is as good as a top ten player when he turns up. It will be all down to the doubles and Hamilton is rock stead with his double 16.

        The game could go beyond three sets, as Beaton is good enough to take a set. The bet of the night must be on the maximums market. Hamilton is 10/11 with Totesport to score most 180’s. The boundary has been set at 6.5 180’s and I am hesitant on this. The other bet we like are the under/over legs in the match. Blue Square stand out at under 17.5 at 8/11. This will come down to the double finishing.

        Osborne vs. Nicholson

        Osborne has been particularly ordinary for a while. Id call him as being beatable by some of the better pub players! Nicholson will see this as his opportunity and he will never be more fired up.

        Best match odds:

        Osborne – 13/8 Skybet
        Nicholson – 4/7 Ladbrokes

        We will be recommending Nicholson outright, but those wanting a bit of Value can back him at 4/1 Ladbrokes to win 3-0 and perhaps put a cover on at 10/3 Hills for 3-1. Nicholson is good enough and Osborne’s inconsistencies may show. Personally ill be looking to lay Osborne and trade in play. I do not see Nicholson losing and am there or there abouts sure about this!

        Adrian Lewis vs. Michael Van Gerwen

        With the confidence of MVG at the moment, winning a recent floor event he will be fired up to beat Lewis. Lewis struggled to get over the line against Burnett, but Burnett had the crowd behind him and caused a few comical moments. Lewis will be aware that if he wins the competition he could become world number one on the order of Merit, as mentioned before the tourney started.

        Best match odds:

        Lewis – 4/7 Betfred
        MVG – 6/4 Blue Square

        It will be tempting to initially lay Lewis, as MVG is a fast starter. We feel his confidence has never been higher and taking Lewis out will only boost this ego. Over 3.5 sets is just 2/5 with Skybet, as the other bookies go over/under 4.5 sets, John Gwynne commentator for Sky Sports thinks this will go all the way, and we agree with this also. To be taking over 16.5 legs in the match is 5/6 with Skybet and this is nailed on! Paddy Power go over 6.5 180’s at 4/6 and could be worth a look also.

        Wes Newton vs. Ian White

        This will be a tight game, as Ian White quietly took out Barney. We were not confident with Barney and White is emerging into the top 32 very quickly. Wes Newton beat long term friend Ronnie Baxter in round one.

        Best match odds:

        Newton – 8/13 Boylesports
        White – 7/5 Bwin

        A tough game to call with Newton making the final of the European Championships and also winning Championship League darts beating Lewis in the final. We watched both and Newton at world 6 could break into the world top 5 with a long run here and at the grand slam next month. White wont make this easy and we find picking a winner too tough to call. White is excellent value and can handle the pressure. Over 16.5 legs is the best bet to be taken here at 16.5 or more at 5/6 Skybet. Over 5.5 180’s at the same firm is 4/6 and this is worth a look.

          We have warmly settled into the autumn/winter season of the PDC season, and yes, we have not put our heating on yet!
          We may laugh out loud, but we are all business here and we enter night three of the competition, seeing night two’s action see a near 9-darter from Van Gerwen. There was also plenty of shocks including Raymond van Barneveld and James Wade going out at the first hurdle. What will tonight have in store

          Schedule of play:

          Wednesday 10th October 2012:

          Brendan Dolan (11/13) Vincent van der Voort (11/10)
          Justin Pipe (7/11) Kevin Painter (6/4)
          Phil Taylor (1/5) Robert Thornton (4)

          We see above a re-match of the UK open back in june and our match of the night will go with King and Chisnall.

          With the longer format, players will be able to settle in much easier. The first round demonstrated a complacency ban, and this affected some players getting off slowly. Phil Taylor was tested but not phased in his opener.

          Dolan Vs Voort

          Vincent faced an Irish player in the first round and gets the tougher opponent with Brendan Dolan. How can we forget Dolan’s 9 darter last year. He is so proud of it, and so he should.

          Best match odds:

          Dolan – 17/20 Sportingbet

          Voort – 11/10

          Vincent was hardly convincing in beating William O’ Connor and went down to a finale leg, which nearly went against the Dutchman. Remember the format is best of five sets, so in theory the minimum leg to be played is nine. Blue Square go 10/11 on over 17.5 legs meaning in essence if the game goes four sets they must all have two five leg sets and two four leg sets to win. This provides little or no value and pretty much banks on a fifth set occurring for the bet to win. Part of me wants to back a highest checkout score, but with the more sets on offer, makes the chances more optimistic. On their day, Voort will score more maximums than Dolan and is 10/11 with Boylesports to oblige. Voort is 1/7 with a 2.5 set headstart requiring just one to win. Some ACCA’s will go with this.

          We are struggling to find a decent bet for this, so keep an eye on @LockupTipster on Twitter for a possible in play!

          Pipe Vs Painter

          Both players were considered underdogs in their first round matches. Both are quality players and it is only a matter of time before Pipe wins an on stage major!

          Best match odds:

          Pipe – 8/13 Boylesports

          Painter – 6/4 Coral

          The bookies are writing Kevin off, and he won a rare whitewash against competent Kim Huybrechts in round one. Justin Pipe took out European Champion Simon Whitlock and deserved the win. Both players are grafters of the game, but we believe Justin is shorter than he should be.

          Kevin Painter is a bargain price of 1/1 to trouser the first maximum with Boylesports and Betfred. Kevin Painter is priced at 1/1 with Paddy Power to score a 102+ checkout in the match and he will certainly have a great opportunity to achieve this. We are convinced Kevin can get the opening 180 and this will be our recommendation. Pipe is a strong candidate to win, but 8/13 does not appeal, and with the correct scores permutations; there is little value to be achieved here.

          Phil Taylor Vs Robert Thornton

          Taylor wouldn’t have forgotten about his defeat to thornton for the UK open crown in June.

          Best match odds:

          Taylor – 1/5 Coral

          Thornton – 4/1 Ladbrokes

          Thornton has been playing the darts of his career. An early scare in round one will have woken Thornton up. He will have the leveller with Taylor again, if he can be consistent with his double in starts. Robert is 4/6 +2.5 sets, which is excellent value, seeing as he only has to win a set. Taylor is as big as 6/4 to win 3-0, which is poor value in respect of Thornton. This wont be bothering him, and +2.5 must be a bet to seriously consider.

          Mervyn King Vs Dave Chisnall

          As mentioned at the beginning, in our view, the games of the night with Chisnall continuing his climb up the rankings and King attempting to re-enter the fray.
          Best match odds:

          King – 6/4 Stan James

          Chisnall – 4/6 Blue Square

          King will be seen by fans as value at this price. King is rock steady and the ultimate professional on stage. We even saw him laughing with the crowd, which meant he enjoys the Irish crowd. It has been ages since we saw a relaxed King, having nothing to lose etc, and taking out the bull, Terry Jenkins.

          King is best 8/13 +1.5 sets, which does not appeal so to speak. Chisnall is short admittedly, but the match is capable of going the distance. As mentioned earlier, the boundary has been made at 17.5 legs. Not all the bookies have released their prices, so we are hesitant to to make a recommendation on this market, so await confirmation on Twitter @lockuptipster. Boylesports go just 4/6 on 8 or more maximums in the game. With five between them combined in the opening round may give more opportunity to add to this.

            PDC World Grand Prix Darts Day 2 Betting Tips

            With some fair prices we are in for a great night, and hopefully some successful outcomes.

            Order of play:

            First Round
            Steve Beaton v Andy Smith
            Andy Hamilton v Mark Webster
            Michael van Gerwen v Colin Lloyd
            Wes Newton v Ronnie Baxter
            James Wade v Colin Osborne
            Adrian Lewis v Richie Burnett
            Raymond van Barneveld v Ian White
            Michael Mansell v Paul Nicholson

            Steve Beaton v Andy Smith
            With Steve Beaton pondering around the top 32, a good run could be significant for the bronze Adonis to remain inside the circle of the top 32. With players like Ian White forcing his way up the rankings, Steve cannot be complacent.

            Best match odds
            Beaton – 10/11 Coral
            Smith – 11/10 Totesport

            There is little value in the handicaps and two fairly close players in ability, means this could go either way. Skybet disagree and think the game will be settled in under 10.5 legs at 8/11. Skybet go evens that the game will go over 2.5 sets, which may be the safer bet. Beaton has beaten Smith on four of the five occasions and have mainly met at Championship Darts at Crondon Park.

            We would love to see Beaton take this, but see over 2.5 sets as our recommended bet.

            Andy Hamilton v Mark Webster

            Mark Webster has shattered confidence at the moment and may struggle to hit a double. Hamilton has had the best year of his career and should be rock steady in winning this. In nine matches, Hamilton has beaten Webster seven times.

            Hamilton – 8/13 Boylesports
            Webster – 6/4 general

            Hamilton is best priced 8/13 at Boylesports to beat 6/4 Webster with the same firm going 15/8 that Hamilton wins this to nil.

            Michael van Gerwen v Colin Lloyd

            What can we say about Michael Van Gerwen, he won a players championship and secured another appearance at the finals at Minehead at the end of November. He plays a veteran Lloyd that on his day is quite an unstoppable player. The former winner and number one in the world will be aware of Van Gerwen’s weaknesses and will have to work on this

            MVG – 4/6 Coral
            Lloyd – 5/4 Totesport

            The pair have met eleven times, with Gerwen winning three of those, including two of the last three. With the confidence of MVG, he has been seen as a Longshot outsider for the crown. We are confident he will deliver and will take the 4/6 on offer.

            Wes Newton v Ronnie Baxter

            The two locals from Fleetwood and Blackpool respectively meet again. Having played three times in 2012, Wes has won two of the three. Wes beat Ronnie in a weekend player’s championship and goes in as the 4/7 favourite with Skybet.

            Best match odds:
            Newton – 4/7 Skybet
            Baxter – 6/4 Totesport

            Newton will be fully focussed after missing out at the European Championship finals, with the belief he can do it again. It is difficult looking past Newton at 7/4 with William Hill. We will take Newton at 2-0 (7/4) and 2-1 (5/2) for an even money return stakes adjusted.

            James Wade v Colin Osborne

            James Wade has been unwell recently and is unknown on the form of the machine. No bet for this game

            Adrian Lewis v Richie Burnett

            We are big fans of Burnett who is a proper grafter. He plays Adrian Lewis, who knows he could snatch the world ranking from Taylor with a long campaign and the Power is de-railed in the first or second round.

            Best match odds:

            Lewis – 4/9 Skybet
            Burnett – 9/4 Stan James

            The pair have met three times all told, with Lewis winning all their encounters. Most recently in the World cup of Darts earlier in the year, Lewis won 4-3. The pair met in the competition back in 2004, where Lewis won 2-0. A repeat performance will see 11/8 Lewis wins 2-0 with Skybet and this gets the green light.
            Raymond van Barneveld v Ian White

            Barney has a tough opponent in Ian White in round one. He will know he will have to get out the blocks early, as White is building up a profile to enter the top 32 and could well do so by the time the World Championships are over.

            Best match odds:

            Barney – 1/2 Skybet
            White – 13/8

            The thing we need to establish is whether Ian White can win a set. We are finding this difficult to establish looking at the form guide. Over 1.5 180’s for Barney is a banker at 4/6 and presents some value.

            Michael Mansell v Paul Nicholson
            The crowd will be very hostile towards Nicholson, and this is how he likes it. We think Mansell with the crowd behind him should be capable of winning a few legs, and is 8/15 with BetVictor +1.5 sets

            Mansell – 6/4 bookies

            If you think Mansell can win, you will expect Nicholson to get a set on the board also, so it may pay to take out correct scores on the following:

            Nicholson: 2-1 5/2 Skybet
            Mansell: 2-1 7/2 Skybet

            Alternatively over 2.5 sets is 11/10 with Paddy Power, although calculating the stake on the correct scores will return an accumulated odds return of 6/4 +. The only danger is if either player wins 2-0 and we feel if Nicholson really shows up, the danger is him winning 2-0.

            We recommend Nicholson outright though overall.

              We will expect Thornton to be on top form after an excellent weekend on the floor events in Dublin. Robert Thornton will want to be turning his form around against Walsh, as they have played eight times, and Walsh has won six of them. Both have similar winning percentages, and Thornton beat Walsh in a player’s championship event back in March.

A market to take a persons eye though could be over 2.5 sets, as neither player will back down easily and both will see they can win it. Both have been in major finals, so they know what is at stake.               Gary Anderson v Brendan Dolan

              Anderson has been looking on top form again since his suspension, and we can hardly forget the magic that Brendan produced last year. We thought that Brendan had the luck of the Irish on his side to help his tourney. Anderson though is a quality player in the elite top ten. We do not see anything but an Anderson win here and BetVictor8/15 with BetVictor says he will win. Anyone looking for better value should consider the Anderson correct score of Anderson 2-0, and Skybet go 11/8 on a 2-0 scoreline.

              Vincent van der Voort v William O’Connor

              They usually say, when the Dutch turn up, they produce the goods. VVV is on last and will want an extended stay until at least Wednesday. Connor has lost both times against VVV and we can see another loss taking place. VVV is excellent value –1.5 sets at 13/8 with Skybet and he will be too strong for the irish guy! Reasoning behind the bet is, this tourney is the beginning of the run in to the World Championships, so all players will want to be playing their very best to cement their world ranking, which may influence the route they have in the World Championships.

                We begin the evening, seeing a few shocks take place in round one. A so-called shock was Mark Webster, but a sure shock was Justin Pipe.

                Van Gerwen won a recent players championship and have been in great form. We have some great matches on the card and we feel most comfortable with:

                Yes we are keen on Wade and Chisnall, but both offer no value.

                Interestingly Gerwen and Smith have not met since 2010, and Smith prevailed a whitewash in the match. We do not generally look into the past too much in this game, but Gerwen appears to be good value at 8/15 with Boylesports. We expect him to win 6-3 or 6-4 as he is that good.

                Ritchie Burnett is up next, the guy that bled a radiator once to get heated water for a pot noodle in a Hotel. Ritchie is 4/6 general and this is good value seeing as this is a format he prefers generally. His comeback to the top 32 has mainly been through the best of 11 tourneys.

                Both players traded victories in the 2010 players championship and we think Burnett will have the mileage to take out Stompe. We do not think he will make it easy, but is considered as one of the hardest grafters on the circuit.

                Jenkins has been tipped by John Gwynne and we have found out Barney has declined the invite for Championship Darts next Tuesday at Crondon Park. This indicates Barney has issues his end, and may not even turn up to play. We know Barney has been subjected to the critics over the last couple of years, but antique salesman Terry Jenkins plays a far professional approach now. Jenkins +1.5 legs is the bet of the night at 4/5 Coral

                Ronnie Baxter is last up on our betting list. We feel as Baxter has never lost to his opponent, that the 5/11 on offer for the win, should be taken. We wont bother risking money on correct scores, but goes into our list of winners for Saturday.

                  European Darts Championships Tips Thursday 20 September 2012

                  We are pleased to be able to offer the Darts tips of Lockup Tipster. This week is the European Darts Championships which is shown live on ESPN and ESPN Classic.

                  We enter the autumn season of Darts after the summer break with some exciting tourneys in front of us. Four more televised events before the end of the year, including the infamous World Championships.
                  The European Championships were devised in 2008, and Phil Taylor has won this every year. En route to his four victories include beaten finalists Steve Beaton, Adrian Lewis twice and Wayne Jones.

                  PHIL TAYLOR will begin his challenge to win a fifth successive PartyPoker.net European Championship title against Magnus Caris when the £200,000 tournament is staged in Muelheim, Germany later this month.

                  Taylor has been unstoppable since the European Championship was introduced to the PDC calendar in 2008, winning all four titles since by picking up two defeats of Adrian Lewis and wins over Steve Beaton and Wayne Jones in the other finals.

                  This year’s event will be held from September 20-23 in Muelheim and screened live on ESPN, with the first round being split across Thursday and Friday night.

                  Taylor’s opening clash will see him come up against Swedish number one Magnus Caris on Thursday September 20, with emerging Dutchman Jerry Hendriks or leading Austrian Mensur Suljovic awaiting the winner in the second round.

                  World Champion Adrian Lewis will face Stoke rival Ian White in the first round on Friday night in a repeat of their meeting on Sunday night in the German Darts Masters final in Sindelfingen, which Lewis won 6-3.

                  World number three James Wade drew former World Matchplay champion Colin Lloyd, while Wes Newton, the number four seed, plays Germany’s Tomas Seyler.

                  Number five seed Andy Hamilton drew Paul Nicholson, Simon Whitlock plays Mark Walsh, Terry Jenkins faces five-time World Champion Raymond van Barneveld and Mark Webster plays Germany’s Andree Welge – who won their German Darts Masters first round game 6-4 despite a nine-darter from the Welshman on Friday.

                  With only eight players seeded, the draw threw together a host of big names, including Mervyn King’s battle with Players Championship Finals winner Kevin Painter and Dutch star Vincent van der Voort’s clash with Belgian Kim Huybrechts, who made his name with a run to the quarter-finals of last year’s European Championship.

                  Justin Pipe drew last year’s World Grand Prix runner-up Brendan Dolan, World Matchplay semi-finalist Ronnie Baxter plays Germany’s Michael Rosenauer, Holland’s Michael van Gerwen plays Andy Smith, Dave Chisnall meets another young Dutchman, Gino Vos, and Richie Burnett meets Co Stompe.

                  The second round of the tournament will be played on Saturday September 22, with the quarterfinals taking place on Sunday afternoon and the semi-finals and final being held in the evening session.

                    UK Open Darts 2012 Preview

                    We are excited to introduce to Betting Portal our first guest tipster Lockup Tipster. I have followed The Lockup Tipster on Twitter ( http://twitter.com/#!/LockupTipster ) I have been impressed by his knowledge of the Pro Darts Scene and his success with Darts Betting Tips. Find below his preview to the UK Open Darts which starts this week.

                    Possibly the most exciting tournament the PDC holds, as the UK open is open to anyone who wishes to enter. Of course there are gruelling qualifiers to make it to Bolton, but it pays dividends for the achievement to say “I was in the UK open” Billed the FA Cup of darts it is the only PDC major where the draw is not pre-determined on rankings. The draw is done from the 3rd round onwards live on stage.

                    The UK open on the opening night will look like a weekend floor tourney when the TV cameras begin their coverage. With so many people involved, it is necessary to have the volume of dartboards on show.

                    For those of you unfamiliar with the UK open, this is the format :

                    • Preliminary, First and Second Round (Thursday): Riley’s and Speedy Hire qualifiers and those placed 33-96 in the UK Open Order of Merit start the tournament here. Best of 7 legs.

                    • Fourth Round (Saturday) Best of 17 legs.
                    • Fifth Round (Saturday) Best of 17 legs.
                    • Quarter Finals (Sunday) Best of 19 legs.
                    • Semi Finals (Sunday) Best of 19 legs.

                    Personally, after the Premier League, all dart followers look forward to the UK open! It is quite the novel event. We can effectively see anyone play anyone during the tourney and James Wade will enter the event as defending Champion. For those needing a reminder, James defeated Wes Newton in the final 11-8 last year. Paul Nicholson, who subsequently lost to James in the Quarter Finals, defeated Phil Taylor.

                    Players to watch?

                    Dave Chisnall has been a big hit since joining the PDC. Dave has scored some BIG victories, one notably against Phil Taylor. Another to keep an eye on is Justin Pipe. Pipe won a lot of floor events in 2011 season and has been performing well in the 2012 campaign thus far. Justin is great on the floor, but has never quite done the business on the stage, which has hampered some progress.

                    Those looking for an insurance bet may consider the Field Vs the Premier League on the field at a BIG 11/2. So if Taylor, Whitlock, Hamilton, Barney, Wade, Painter, Lewis or Anderson do not win it, you have pocketed a 11/2 shot! It should be noted every winner since the Premier League started in 2006 have won the UK open, so the bookies may not be too far out on the skinny 1/10 offered on any of the above.

                     

                    Who will win it?

                    Obviously Phil Taylor will be the red-hot favourite to win the Tourney at best priced 2/1 at Coral. Bwin and 188sport have Taylor at 6/4.  This is a bookmakers delight and nightmare in that the permutations of who will face whom if everything goes to plan are known.

                    Others to keep an eye on is James Wade to retain, and players like Dave Chisnall, Simon Whitlock and Wes Newton having decent runs in the Tourney.

                    It should be noted that the field are a massive 4/9 on beating Taylor to the 2012 crown. This should not be ignored. It will take Taylor a lot to overcome all the stakes to regain this crown.

                    We are in a difficult position to think who will win it, but think Taylor will not be celebrating any victory.

                     

                    The final word

                    The field to beat Taylor may be skinny at 4/9, but a great price for punters in general with the chances at stake. We feel the Taylor era is in a gradual decline, and may continue at the UK open.
